Conan and Age of Conan Blog and Fan Site

Hello everyone,

Just a quick post today in my age of conan blog. Tuesday could be a huge make or break day for Funcom as many of the “casual” AoC fans could decide whether to stick with the game or not. Many of you might say “good riddance” however Funcom is in no position to allow those numbers to flock to other MMORPGS/games.

Look for most of the following to be fixed tomorrow(should be or Funcom is up the creek without a paddle..)

1. Traders
2. UI improvements(Come on worst map system ever)
3. Field of the dead optimization(Some parts are nearly unplayable even with my machine)
4. Getting stuck less(Getting stuck in water for the win!)
5. Random hardware optimization

Loyal fans in MMORPGs are really the minorities here. It isn’t like a retail store where you get regulars that contribute the most to your total sales. Everyone pays $14.99 per month. Funcom has to appease the masses this patch.

Hey everyone,

I have some tips for those of you perhaps frustrated with the game. They come in no particular order really.

1. Double tap S to align the mobs. Usually this works well for me.
2. If someone is blocking you with their war mammoth in town. Press H to hide and go through them. With hide you can go through anything pretty much.
3. As a Bear Shaman if you go emp renewal hit it right before your last combo button. It will do significantly more damage.
4. If some of you are struggling during some of your destiny quests. Go outside and leveling in day time Tortage. I found this helps for some of the weaker classes.
5. In Field of the dead. If you constantly crash turn off your sound. This actually stabilizes that zone.
6. If you screw up your skills such as Hide, Climb etc just press alt + click. You will reset them
7. If you part with a significantly lower level person make them apprentice and you can share the same aggro pretty much.
8. Sometimes grinding beats out questing. If you get to about 36 and are too weak for Field of the dead + Noble district find some mobs and start going at it. IT definately beats out wandering aimlessly for hours.
9. If your friend plays on a launch day server but it says “full”. Tell them to wake up early one day and roll there. The server doesn’t allow for character rolls during prime time as it is packed.

There are some tips for now. I’ll post some more in the coming days

For Bear Shaman Fans here are some brutal bugs which may deter you from the class.

Feat–Grace of Nature: Does not remove root effects as the tooltip claims in PvE
Feat–Spirit Totem: Venom This spell gets removed whenever you zone.
Feat–Untamed Regeneration This ability is removed whenever you zone.
Spell–Claws of the Reaper This spell is removed whenever you zone.
UI–Icons for some spells disappear specifically Claws of Stone.
Spells–Claws of Stone & Spirit of the Bear: Sometimes show up with 24 hour durations
Spells–General: Some players seem to not be receiving spells at the appropriate levels. Level 40 spells in particular are not being granted to many players. (MAJOR BUG)
Feat-Deft Renewal: Does not have a separate buff icon from Renewal and the Renewal icon doesn’t mention anything about the Deft Renewal buff.

Hello folks,

The big day has finally arrived and I have some new screen shots of my progress today in my age of conan blog.

Big Day

Finally after 5 years Age of Conan has been released. I personally have been waiting about a year and a half for this. The game so far is great. Minus a few communication issues with Funcom; so far the game is great.

Pre-orders of the MMO’s collector’s edition have been strong enough to cause the title to completely sell out, despite a second print run to keep up with demand, selling in total around 111,000 units.

The demand has been so high that 700,000 copies of the game will be shipped to retailers for day one sales, and Funcom has announced it will be unable to fulfill all pre-orders in some markets due to current server limitations.

Those are very promising numbers. Hopefully Funcom can deal with the demand that is placed upon them in the coming days.

My progression

My Bear Shaman is now 33 I have a new weapon to show you all which I just got from a long series of quests in Conall’s Valley. It has to do with the Yrmish. I forgot the exact title however you most likely won’t miss it. Here are a few pictures for all of you to see.

Also here are some tips on PvP servers.

1. Get a leveling buddy. Quests give so much exp that the mob experience is nowhere near worth the time resurrecting and buffing.
2. Alt + F10 camps you to the login screen. This is useful for those of you who want to try out a bunch of characters.
3. The game is instanced partially. If the servers are overloaded the player base is split up. Don’t make the same mistake I made =P (That little arrow represents selection)
4. Align your mobs so you can do AoE damage. This is very useful for melee as the term “Aoe” was usually specific to mages. It speeds up mob killing.
5. Always look at your quests on the map. AoC has made it particularly easy to know where to go. It saves a ton of time.
6. If the server says its full and character can’t be created.  Wait until 6am or so(off-hours) and quickly make a char then.  That way you will just be in a queue instead.

Hey everyone,

Today in my age of conan blog I will be discussing the massive server downtime, some shady leveling and my progression.

Downtime

It looks as if the age of conan early access is pretty much limited to about a day for me. The servers were taken down quite a bit during peak hours. Yesterday was roughly 4 hours and today is about 7 hours.  I hope this isn’t a problem come launch. Here is a picture of the large downtime for today. The rough estimate for non early access people entering AoC is 12PM EST. If that is upheld it remains to be seen.

Shady Leveling

Exploit leveling is nothing new in MMORPGs. Age of conan now has its share of exploit levelers. Apparently the exploit has something to do with a wanted sign post and multiple hand ins. The quest gives 10k EXP which is quite a large amount. That is about 1/3 of your bar in the 20s - 30s. So I thought I was being left in the dust by being slow. I guess not =P

My Progression

I am now level 28 on the Tyranny PvP server. My Bear Shaman is much improved from being constantly wrecked by anything with two legs previously. I can’t wait to further test out the Bear Shaman at higher levels.

Hello everyone,

A few things to note as I level up.

1. Much Smoother Gameplay (Running at 1680 x 1050 with fraps @ about 40-50 fps)
2. The Bear Shaman is indeed improved at the higher levels..I am level 16 so far.
3. Slow loading “checking database” is no more. It is much faster than before
4. The launch was VERY smooth considering what could have happened.

Also everyone since BANE PvP turned into a Culture PvP server. I rolled on Tyranny instead. Sorry for the late news; Funcom put a wrench in my plans.

I had to re-install the game since I got this error. I am sure there is a better way but I wasn’t in the mood to fiddle with it. If anyone knows of the fix please let me know.
